The Land Art Moving Biennial takes place every second year and is dedicated to movement, dance and landscape the biennial has as an aim to be moving to enhance and seed a platform to nourish new connections and bridges across the globe.
We’re all conscious of inevitable changes that are happening in the world around us. We are constantly receiving news about melting glaciers, cut or burnt down forests, riverbeds controlled by human activity, disappearing species, and many other drastic alterations of the natural environment. If we look at these problems locally rather than globally, what kind of changes can we notice in our own habitat? The biennial brings attention to slow, nearly invisible processes that influence our landscapes in a longer time dimension. How does the environment around us shape our bodies, and can you as a human influence the landscape around you? The biennial shows various medias to bring attention to the imperceptibility of certain processes and the ephemeral character of the world.
With the support of Águeda’s City Council, the first Land Art Moving Biennial took place in September 2021 with the main focus on Águeda and its surrounding region, with emphasis on the river parks, whose preservation has become an increasing priority for Agueda’s Municipality.
The second edition of the Land Art Moving Biennial took place during the whole month of August 2023, and its theme was vanishing landscapes. With activities open for the public happening mainly on the weekends. The artists where hosted in the AgitLab residency for at least a week each, developing and preparing their projects. There was a variety of different mediums presented in the frame of the biennial, to get a wide view on the issue of vanishing landscapes.
JAB|
The Jelsa Art Biennial occurs every 2 years on Hvar, in Croatia.
In 2018, a visit from Águeda's city hall sparked a collaboration that has led to the development of an ongoing international residency program in partnership with AgitLAB. Artists are invited to participate through both direct invitations and open calls to the global art community. As part of this initiative, JAB has expanded its reach internationally, fostering cooperation across borders.
The Jelsa Art Biennial on the island of Hvar is a festival of contemporary art that connects different audiences through a multitude of artistic media and practices. It is aimed at both established artists and emerging artists. The event is specific for works that are mostly performed in public spaces with the aim of bringing contemporary art closer to the widest possible audience, emphasizing art that conveys a message of social responsibility and sustainability. In this sense, JAB has a vision to become a unique and recognizable event of socially responsible art at the European level and a generator of development based on environmental awareness and culture.
